Computer — Dream Meaning
The mind as machine — computers mean processing, memory, crashes, and the unconscious renting new devices for old messages.
What it means to dream about computer
A computer in a dream is the mind's portrait of itself as a machine: processing, storing, crashing. Its malfunctions are the modern psyche's standard vocabulary — the frozen screen (a thought that will not proceed), the lost file (memory unrecoverable at the worst moment), the endless update (a self forced to restart before it may continue). Tradition, barely a generation old but already confident, reads computer dreams as reports on your mental operating system.
A computer doing something impossible — showing the future, speaking, refusing shutdown — is the machine as oracle: the unconscious renting the newest device to deliver the oldest messages. Someone else at your computer is privacy's modern nightmare: your stored self, browsed. Games played on it return the symbol to play: the mind, at leisure inside its own portrait.
Common variations
A frozen screen
A thought that will not proceed — the psyche's progress bar, stuck at a percentage it declines to improve.
Losing all your files
Memory unrecoverable at the worst moment: the file, the draft, the unsaved version of a life.
Someone using your computer
Privacy's modern nightmare — your stored self, browsed by hands the dream has chosen carefully.
The psychological view
Psychologists read computers as self-models — the psyche describing its own processing, memory and crashes in the era's native metaphor.
DreamDictionary readings draw on traditional folklore and modern dream psychology. They are prompts for reflection, not predictions — the feeling a dream leaves you with is usually its most honest part.
