Knife — Dream Meaning

Tool at the border of weapon — knives mean cutting, severing, craft and conflict, with the hand and the direction deciding everything.

What it means to dream about knife

A knife is the tool at the border of the weapon: it prepares dinner and ends arguments, and dreams keep both edges sharp. A kitchen knife in use is craft — the cutting of things into usable form, analysis with a handle. A knife brandished or feared is conflict at close range: words that cut, a person whose usefulness to you has developed an edge. Being stabbed belongs to the betrayal family — the wound from the quarter you fed — with folklore noting how often the dream-knife arrives from behind.

Sharpening a knife is preparation with intent: skills, words or defenses being honed for a named occasion. A dull knife is frustration in the hand — effort without edge, the tool failing the task it was kept for. Knives given as gifts carry the old superstition with them even into dreams: a blade between friends severs, tradition says, unless a coin is given in exchange to keep the friendship bought, not cut.

The psychological view

Psychologists read knives as cutting functions — analysis, severance and aggression sharing one handle, the dream deciding which hand holds it.

DreamDictionary readings draw on traditional folklore and modern dream psychology. They are prompts for reflection, not predictions — the feeling a dream leaves you with is usually its most honest part.
